There are a number of special places in the Kimberley Region like the Coronation Islands which boast the "MERMAID" Tree at Careening Bay and the "IVY" Tree at Ivy Bay, Cassini Island, the Institut Islands and the Montalivet Islands.  However, the following seven places that we have chosen to include on our site are really special to both ourselves and the indigenous people of the Kimberley coastal areas.

Aboriginal Art Sites are prevalent throughout the Kimberley and some of the most diverse are to be found within a mile or two of the coast.  Art such as found at the Raft Point Gallery (left) is awe-inspiring.  We have presented a collation of photographs with few words so that the reader can attach a personal significance to these fascinating places.

Rainforest Ravine - Rainforest Ravine is located on the northern side of York Sound opposite the Anderdon Islands and 3 NM east of Kartja Island.  This is one of the most isolated and serene places that we have visited in the Kimberley.  A combination of no charter boats, a fearsome crocodile, all season fresh water, ferns, rainforest, a steep gorge, myriads of birds, timid small animals and cool swimming lagoons really makes this place so special.

A drying rocky inlet on the eastern side of Collier Bay named Langgi  is one of the most amazing places in the Kimberley.  The sandy beaches, freshwater gorge and rock formations (left) are unreal - see for yourself.

Talbot Bay has massive tides that surge through the Horizontal Waterfalls (right) and attract thousands of visitors a year.  Dugong Bay is right next door!  Large areas of both bays dry at low tide, and the high tide covers jagged reefs and rockbars.  Check them out on these pages!

From the Iron Islands in the east, to Dampier's Monument in the west, Yampi Sound holds some of the highest grade iron ore deposits in the world at Cockatoo and Koolan Islands.  The southern fringe of the sound is indented with drying inlets such as Coppermine Ck, Myridi Inlet, Crocodile, Silvergull and Dogleg Creeks Some of these have perennial freshwater creeks and springs which cascade into the sea.  Check them out on this page!

King Sound is an area usually bypassed by cruising yachties.  Locations in the tide ravaged sound, given names like Whirlpool Pass,  Hells Gates, Escape Pass, Alarm Shoal, Tide Rip Islands (photo right) and The Graveyard, are in complete contrast to the adjacent, peaceful, Yampi Sound.  However, the deeply indented bays and rivers on the eastern side of King Sound offer protection from both wind and tide, with some great scenery as a bonus.  Take a look at Cone Bay, Strickland Bay or Crawford Bay for starters.
